Major Tourist Attractions In Angola

When in Luanda, save your eyes for the amazingly beautiful Cidade Alta which is an old church built by the colonial occupants of the country in the early 1700s. Visit the Museu Nacional de Antropologia for its excellent displays of rarely seen Angolan crafts and information on the history of the city.

The beaches are far from spectacular, but some do stand out from the rest, such us the llha do Massula. The beach has an amazing stretch of coconut palms set on the white sandy beach. Beside the beach are a number of bars and restaurants where you could sit back, relax and watch the sunset.

The Kissama National Park is the ideal place to visit if you want to glimpse a wee bit of the famed African animals in their variety and splendour. It is 70km south of Luanda and has accommodation available in the park but visitors need to carry their own food. The park is closed during the rainy season (October to March).

45 km south of Luanda is Palmeirinhas – a long and deserted beach. Bathing is hazardous though, so be careful. Fishing is great here, so is it at Santiago beach, 45km north of Luanda. The Kalandula Waterfalls, in the Malange area, are an impressive spectacle, particularly at the end of the rainy season.

Note: In order to take photographs in Angola, an official permit is required. The process of getting a permit generally takes a day. The permits can be obtained from the Ministry of Information and Culture. You’ll need two photos of yourself in order to obtain this permit.
