Getting Around Angola: Transportation Guide

By news desk on July 17,2007

image

Getting to the cities of Angola is only possible by air. Chartered flights around the country are possible but not advised. Domestic flights within the country only stretch to three cities - Cabinda, Huambo and Namibe. Proper authorisation papers are needed before you can travel to any part of Angola from the capital, Luanda. The Government discourages travelling out of Luanda. Also, the civil war has caused the roads to be inaccessible and very dangerous.

By Road

Driving is done on the right side in Angola, even though most of the roads are unsuitable for driving. All drivers must have either an international or a valid local and approved license.

By Train

Political instability and the on-going civil war, has had a major effect on the rail system in Angola. The system has been forced to divert all its routes through inland Luanda in order to avoid the blood shed. The trains do not have sleeping cars or air conditioning, though drinks and food are available on a select number of trips.
