Luanda Entertainment Guide

Safe and healthy food outside of the hotels is limited as most of the restaurants run by the locals do not have permits and haven’t been inspected. You can also eat at restaurants on the outer end of the island. To entertain yourself, you would have to make a local friend in order to find out where the hot spot is that specific night. The discos tend to be overpriced with American or Brazilian music. ‘Kizombas’ on the other hand are African style nightclubs with local music and traditional food and they are said to be great fun.

Shopping

This is perhaps not the best place to shop because of the civil war wracking Angola and pounding its capital, Luanda, for 20 years. What you get here you will get anywhere else in the world. The shopping is mostly confined to the duty free shops. The largest handicraft market is the Futungo Market, south of Luanda. This is the main hub of the tourists and expats who come to buy what they call "African Art", which is largely stylized masks and trinkets. The black market ("cundonga") of Roque Santerio is also a good place to buy interesting souvenirs like masks and fabrics.
