By Air
Though very expensive, Botswana does have domestic flights to all its major cities.
By Road
Buses are available daily by the hour in Gaborone to any city. Car hire services are widely available in Maun, Gaborone and Francistown. Four-wheel drive vehicles are a must in many areas, and there's a speed limit of 120kph. An international driving permit is not required but recommended for a stay of more than six weeks; thereafter a Botswana driving license must be obtained. Traffic drives on the left. Major roads leading to regional centers are tarred. The practice of hitching is so institutionalized that it carries a set charge - about US$0.05 per 10 km (6mi).
By Train
A very reliable and inexpensive way of travelling the rough and dusty terrain of Botswana is by train. The rail line runs through Francistown, Gaborone and Lobatse.
