There is no shortage of establishments serving continental cuisine in Cape Verde. You'll get variety in Plato in Santiago. For authentic Portuguese food, try the harbour front in Sao Vicente. The island of Sal, popular with package-tour operators, has seen the growth of numerous new high-quality restaurants especially in the villages of Santa Maria and Espargos. Do not miss the chance to sink your teeth into some genuine Cape Verdean food, especially local favourites like catchupa and chicarro seco.
By way of entertainment, apart from the carnivals that make each island come alive (especially the ones in Praia and Mindelo), the islands of Santiago, Sal and Sao Vicente have some great nightlife – from makeshift, informal discotheques preferred by the locals to some international quality bars and clubs frequented by business-class visitors – take your pick.
Shopping
In general, Cape Verde is not a great shopping destination, but one can pick up some local handicrafts at one of the many vibrant local markets on the islands. Shops are generally open from 0800-1200 and 1500-1900 Monday to Saturday.
