Addis Ababa City Getaways

There are a number of very interesting getaways from Addis Ababa including the Entoto mountain range which affords unhurried and undisturbed views of the spectacular Blue Nile Gorge from the recently opened Entoto National Park; the small town of Debre Zeit (an hour’s drive from Addis Ababa, and a base for exploring the nearby crater lakes - Lake Bishoftu and Lake Hora); the Bihere Tsige garden en route to Debre Zeit, which is a great introduction to the fantastic Ethiopian birdlife, and definitely the most unmissable of all, the Blue Nile Gorge—an absolutely breathtaking sight. The journey of the Blue Nile starts at Lake Tana to the north and cuts through this awe-inspiring gorge.
