Abidjan Travel Guide

By news desk on July 31,2007

image
Abidjan is the shining heart of West Africa in every sense. For years it was an industrial and commercial hotspot and the capital of one of Africa’s economic success stories. Today, even after the shifting of the capital of Cote d’Ivoire to Yamoussoukro, the economic downturn in the past decade and the recent rise in crime and sporadic fighting, Abidjan remains one of the glitziest cities in Africa, with kilometre upon kilometre of smooth roads and excellent tourist and business infrastructure. It is also the cultural capital of the country and a cosmopolitan, vibrant place where you will find something to occupy you everyday.

Warning: There have been repeated clashes between the Muslim north and the Christian / animist south of the country, so do check the domestic security situation before leaving. Also, remember that almost no part of the city is safe to walk in after dark.
