Mombasa Travel Guide

Situated on the Kenyan coast, lapped by the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean is the historic island of Mombasa, settled since ancient times and rediscovered by the redoubtable Vasco da Gama. Mombasa is also the largest port on the East African coast and a hub of trading activity. Despite this fact, Mombasa today is an intriguing mix of old and new, where an Arab-style Old Town with narrow streets and an unchanged tranquil air sit comfortably next to a modern business and tourist presence. The ethnic diversity of the place, with Portuguese, Arab and Asian influences interlace with traditional Swahili culture to create a delicate potpourri for the senses.
