Liberia Shopping Guide

By news desk on August 01,2007

Monrovia is the place to shop for textiles brightly adorned with embroidery and ‘tie and dye’. Tailors line the streets and will make you African and European dresses in a few hours. You also have the option of elegant supermarkets and boutiques in the capital city, Monrovia. If it is handicrafts you want, Liberians make carvings in sapwood, camwood, mahogany, ebony and stone. As with the rest of Africa, ritual masks, metal jewellery and figurines are sold. The interesting reed dolls of Loma are also worth considering as souvenirs. Shopping hours in Liberia are Monday to Friday 8am to 12 noon and 1:30pm to 6:30pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm.
