Visa issued by a Malagasy embassy or consulate is essential for all tourists except citizens of some African countries. Visas are valid for a period of 90 days from the date of issue and are generally not extendable. Other documents required are passports, four forms, four passport size photographs and a fee of US $ 33. The French consulate is also authorized to issue a visa within 24 hours. There is also a departure tax, US $ 13 for Mauritius, the Seychelles and the Comoros and is US $ 20 for rest of the world.
