Mauritius: Tourist Health And Safety Guide

By news desk on August 23,2007

As far as African destinations are concerned, Mauritius is one of the safest places to visit—this holds true of both health and security hazards. There is a risk of malaria throughout the country (except Rodrigues), but it is of the benign (P. Virax) variety. With some luck and adequate precautions common to all tropical areas (drinking only safe water and using sun care products), the most you will suffer is mild sunburn. Make sure you get a yellow fever vaccination if traveling from an infected area to Mauritius. Mauritius also has a low crime rate, so apart from the necessary precautions, you should have a safe stay in Mauritius.
