Special events to look forward to while on a visit to Senegal include the Dakar segment of the gruelling Paris-Dakar Rally, a 10,000 km motor and bike race that ends in Dakar in January. The Arts du Sous-verre exhibition of contemporary and traditional glass paintings is also held every January. Dak’art showcases African fine arts every other year in the second week of May. May also hosts Le Printemps des Cordes, the spring festival of traditional African stringed instruments at the French Cultural Centre. The end of May or early June is the time for the St. Louis Jazz Festival and the festival season ends with Recidak, the annual African films festival held in the last week of June.
