The power supply is at best erratic, especially in the smaller towns. 215 to 240 volts AC, 50 hz is the normal supply.
Weights & Measures
Sudan follows the metric system.
Post & Communications
The postal system in Sudan can be harrowingly slow and dysfunctional. A poste restante system exists in most post offices, but this is not very reliable. Stick to the main post office in Khartoum or the mailbox in your hotel.
International telephone calls can be made quite easily from Khartoum, especially with the recent mushrooming of private telephone companies. The costs can be prohibitive, though. Around the rest of the country, telephone systems are unreliable.
English Language Media
Newspapers are not easy to come by. There is one government-controlled newspaper printed in English, but the news may not always be accurate or reliable. There is one TV station in Sudan.
