By news desk on August 29,2007

The main festivals in Tunisia are all related to events in the Islamic calendar like the 'Eid al-Adha, Ras as-Sana and. Moulid an-Nabi which celebrates the prophet Mohammed's birthday in June or July. These celebrations include parades with lamps, lights, feasts, drummers and special festival sweets. Ramadan is a month of fasting during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, commemorating the month when the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed, founder of Islam, culminating in 'Eid al-Fitr, a time of great celebration and feasting.

More secular events in Tunisia’s social calendar include the Carthage International Festival of music, dance and theatre performances at Carthage's restored Roman theatre in June July. The El-Jem International Symphonic Music Festival is held every July. The Dougga Festival of classical drama also takes place in July and August in Dougga. Autumn ends with the biennial Carthage International Film Festival in October.
