Zimbabwe Tourist Health And Safety Guide

By news desk on August 30,2007

Bilharzia, cholera, malaria, rabies and yellow fever are the main health risks in Zimbabwe. It would be wise to start a course of Malaria prophylactics before entering Zimbabwe. Use mosquito nets and/or mosquito repellent creams to avoid mosquito bites. The water is perfectly safe for drinking.

The main safety precaution in Zimbabwe pertains to the prevailing political turmoil there over the occupation of white farms by blacks; so many rural areas are out of bounds for travelers. Do check the situation with your embassy/consulate before leaving. Also, when in Harare, remember that Chancellor Ave, an extension of Seventh St is where the executive President resides. This place has a curfew between 6 pm and 6 am and there are shoot-at-sight orders for anybody found violating the curfew.
