Full of boutiques and duty free shops, the town is a mixture of old and new. From the old emerges the new - Redcliffe Quay is full of restored historical buildings, now souvenir shops. Quaint and picturesque, these shops have a charm of their own. Heritage Quay, strategically built near the harbour, is a duty free shopping complex that even houses a casino. This is one of the most crowded areas in the town especially when there is a cruise ship docked.
Just outside St. John’s is Wood’s Centre, which is the Island’s main shopping area. Here, you’ll find the Island’s best – equipped supermarkets, pharmacies and bookshops. For those who are into self – catering, there are numerous grocery stores around the Island. However, it is better to take accommodation in or around any of the main towns of the Island.
On Fridays and Saturdays mornings, St. John’s is the most colourful place to visit. Stacks of vegetables and tropical fruits including mangos, papayas, yams crowd the market. This is also the place to look for folk crafts such as pottery.
