By news desk on June 29,2007

The waters around Puerto Rico hold an astounding variety of marine life. Take a deep breath, dive in and admire the colours that are concealed by the blue waters. You can indulge in snorkelling in the shallow waters or hire a boat and head for deeper waters where you can dive. The coastline all along Puerto Rico is protected by coral reef so there are plenty of spots to explore. There are many companies on the island that rent the required equipment.

If you love surfing the surf, Pine Beach Grove in Isla Verde is the place for you. Winter is the preferred surfing season when waters along the northern coast turn rougher. Jacobs Bay in the south is another favourite spot with windsurfers. The relatively calmer waters of Condado Lagoon, San Juan makes it a popular spot with beginners. La Pared, Luquillo, is the where the surfing tournaments are held. But the water here is very rough; so don’t jump in for a dip.

If you’re interested in deep-sea fishing, the waters of Puerto Rico hold a definite challenge for you. There are blue and white marlins, sailfish, wahoos, dolphins and mackerels to fish. Puerto Rico is also the venue for the international billfish competition, one of the biggest competitions held in the entire Caribbean.

Sailing is another popular activity and there are a number of crafts that you can hire for the particular activity. A number of races are held through the year but the annual international sailing regatta is the biggest.
