Puerto Rico has its share of ritzy restaurants serving a variety of cuisines. The smaller bars and restaurants rustle up great local cuisine that is Spanish based. Seafood figures high on the list here. The cafes on the streets serve the normal fast food comprising of piazzas, burgers and fries. Food in these establishments is relatively inexpensive.
The casinos and nightclubs hum with life till the wee hours of the night. Weekends are very active with the big hotels organising parties where everything from jazz music to old songs play. Make sure you carry your dancing shoes!
If casinos and nightclubs aren’t your scene them you could head for one of the numerous theatres to enjoy a bit of the vibrant Puerto Rican culture. If it’s a movie that you want to watch there are a number of cinemas that you can relax in.
Shopping
Rum is synonymous with Puerto Rico. A variety of rum is produced and sold here. The locally hand rolled cigar is another 'must buy'.
Plaza Las Americas, Hato Rey, is the largest shopping mall in the entire Caribbean and there is nothing that you can't buy here. Imported good for all over are stacked on shelves. If it's more traditional, local crafts that you are looking for, browse through the souvenir shops in Old San Juan. Wood cravings, musical instruments, lace, sculpture, hammocks, coffee, straw weavings…. take your pick!
