Music is an integral part of life in Trinidad & Tobago. There is constant fusion between the existing styles of music giving birth to newer music. Calypso is a blend of African, French spiced with touches of British, Spanish and East Indian. The music, that is most often witty, is a reflection of the society’s thought process voiced in the most popular medium. You’ll hear it blaring everywhere you go though you might not be able to understand most of it. The most popular are soca tunes and a mixture of rap and Calypso called ‘Rapso’. A recent trend is that of Pan music where tins, dust bins and bamboo sticks are used as instruments. Parang, steel bands and jazz are other popular forms of music.
