All visitors to Uzbekistan must carry a passport that is valid during for the period of their visit no matter of what nationality they are. All except those who are nationals of CIS states require visas. The exceptions to this are nationals of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan who are required to obtain a visa to travel to Uzbekistan. Transit passengers who have proof of onward journey do not need a visa if they are continuing in the same flight or on the next available flight to their destination. Their movements however, are restricted to the designated transit area.

Visa applications must be made to an Uzbek embassy. If there isn’t one where you stay, applications may be sent to the Uzbek authorities in Tashkent and entry is allowed if you have a pre-arranged visa waiting for you at the Tashkent airport. Several airlines need documentation showing the same before they let you fly into Uzbekistan. Also, you must have travel insurance.

For more information and the latest on visa information since rules are liable to change, contact the Uzbek diplomatic mission in your country.
