Getting Around Tashkent: Transport Guide

By news desk on September 10,2007

image

Tashkent has a public transport network that is inexpensive and very efficient. Taxis, trams, trolleybuses, buses and a good underground railway make getting around in Tashkent easy.

Those with private cars should know that traffic rives on the right, all documentation such as an international drivers’ license, insurance and the registration papers of the car must be in order, fuel shortages are frequent, the roads are badly lit, and penalties enforced by a low paid police force for even the smallest error are huge. Taxis may be hired from ranks or hailed down on the street. Many taxis are unmarked and unmetered, try getting into one that isn’t. Negotiate the fare before hiring the cab, and refuse to share it with a stranger.
