It is blessed with great natural beauty, churches, monasteries and wildlife. Watch out for altitude sickness and best take it easy for few hours after arrival. If you want to see an active volcano, the Cotopaxi is famous.
The Galapagos Islands is famous for its unique wildlife. It is said that 50% of its wildlife does not exist anywhere else in the world! Giant tortoises, lizards and iguanas are some of them. The Amazon is not exactly a friendly river, in the sense it is crowded with overgrowth and undergrowth, but there are places where one can take boat rides and experience the teeming life of the river.
Otavalo is where traditional handicrafts are made. Saturdays is 'market day'in the Indian market. Trekking around the volcanoes, walking and climbing in the National Parks are also options. Visitors are however warned that a few robberies have taken place lately and it is safer to take a mountain guide along on climbing trips.
