Literature in El Salvador has overwhelming touches of the Romantic Movement. From Jose Batres Montufar and Arturo Ambrogi to Dorain Diaz and Gilberto Arriaza, this trend is pretty evident despite the hardships prevalent in the Salvadoran society.

Music in the urban centres reflects North American influence. Techno, pop and rock are what you’ll hear most of the time. Salsa and merengue from the neighbouring Caribbean islands are also popular in clubs. There is also a growing folk music trend that weaves in subjects from the current political scenario. If you’re looking for something more traditional, there are a few Latin Salvadoran music groups.

Popular local crafts include wicker furniture and weavings.
