Restaurants and cafes serve a wide variety of cuisine catering to all budgets. It is worth noting that quality of food rarely depends on the grade of the restaurant you are dining at. Take your pick of food you want to eat - Chinese, French, Argentinian, Japanese, Mexican, fast food or continental - you’ll get them all. Modern music or marimba, sway to the beat at nightclubs and discotheques, particularly in Guatemala City. You also have the option of the theatre or film shows in the major cities.

Rich woven textiles, embroidered costumes, intricately carved handicrafts, leather goods, baskets and jewellery are what you’d like to shop for here. Local markets to modern shopping malls - all house indigenous goods. You’ll find these items all over the country but certain cities are renowned for specific articles such as Coban for silver ware; Antigua for masks and costumes; Villa de Chinautla and Rabinal for ceramics.
Bargaining is an accepted norm in the local markets but not so in the shopping malls. Shops are usually open from 9am to 6 pm with a one-hour lunch break on weekdays. Shops usually close early on Saturdays.
