Health & Safety
Stay away from those salads and fruits that can’t be peeled. Use boiled water to drink and brush teeth with. In case you do get some bug – don’t worry because medical care is good in the major cities (the best is in Lima).
Thefts are common, but if you exercise a little caution things should be alright.
Electricity
Peru uses 220V, 60 Hz except Areguipa, which is on 50 Hz
Post & Communications
Postal service is good but expensive. As a traveller you can receive mail either at the post office or the American Express. Telefonia del Peru provides national and international phone and fax services.
Weights and measures
The Metric system is used.
Tipping
Service charge of 15% is added to the bill but another 5%is expected as tips. Taxi drivers do not generally expect tips, so this is up to you.
English Language Media
Newspapers are in Spanish. The English Language paper Lima Times is published monthly and is available in major hotels and bookstores as are international newspapers and magazines.
