There are 43 national parks and twenty-two nature reserves that you can visit. The Instituto Nacional de Parques is the governmental body that runs national parks. No permit is needed to enter these parks. The Los roques charges US$12, most others charge a fee of US$1.
Hardly anyone would like to miss the magnificent sight of the Angel Falls—the kilometer high waterfall that is Venezuela’s pride and big foreign exchange churner. Other marvels to see are the Andean peaks, the Orinoco delta, Cueva del Guacharo, the tepuis (flat topped mountains) and waterfalls of the Gran Sabana and the wildlife of Los Llanos.

The city of Caracas has two easily identifiable sections - the old and the new. The Old City dates back to the colonial era and the nucleus is Plaza Bolivar with a statue of the hero astride a horse dating back to 1874. Most of the monuments and historical buildings in Caracas revolve around Bolivar.

The Cathedral looks over the Plaza and houses the Bolivar family chapel. The chapel is strikingly modern with a statue of Bolivar grieving for his parents and wife. Next to the Cathedral is the Museo Sacro de Caracas, which has a collection of religious art. Museo Bolivariano exhibits memoirs of the weapons and portraits dating back to the independence movement. Cuadra Bolivar is one of the hero's many childhood homes.

Iglesia de San Francisco is the final resting place of Bolivar and is famed for its gilded altarpieces. His remains were brought back from Colombia 12 years after his death in 1842. Panteon Nacional used to be a church that was destroyed by the 1812 earthquake. Today, it is the final resting place of eminent Venezuelans. The central plaque is dedicated to Bolivar and his bronze sarcophagus adorns the altar.

New Caracas is ultra modern with its highrises, apartment blocks and the avant-garde Octagonal Towers. Take a break and browse the Museum of Contemporary Art adorned with works by Miro, Chagall, Leger and Piccasso. This is undoubtedly one of the best Museums of South America and its pride is 100 engravings of Picasso crafted between 1931-1934. Caracas also has a zoo, Parque Zoologico de Curicao, show-casing the main animals and reptiles of Venezuela.
