Getting Around Shanghai: Transport Guide

By news desk on October 22,2007

Making your way around Shanghai isn’t much of a problem- transport networks are fairly good. One of the best ways to get around is in the Shanghai subway, which is fast, efficient and with a good network reaching nearly all over the city. The bus system, on the other hand, is often very slow (thanks to Shanghai’s notoriously bad – and frequent- traffic jams) and poorly laid out. To top it off, it’s also (especially during the mornings and the evenings) appallingly overcrowded. For an easier and more convenient ride, you can try hiring a car (remember, though, that you won’t be allowed to drive beyond the city limits), or take a taxi; they’re quite good, even though most of the drivers don’t speak English.

Alternatively, and this, obviously, applies only for certain parts of the city, you can use the boats and ferries plying on the local Huangpu River.
