Shopping Overview In Japan

By news desk on October 23,2007

image
In Japan, shopping can be a real pleasure, provided you know what to buy and have the money to pay for it. One thing you must keep in mind is that, although a lot of Western 'designer’ goods are available in Japan, they are invariably much more expensive than in the West. It makes much more sense to restrict your shopping to Japanese-made products, especially some of their lovely handicrafts. With typically Japanese aesthetics, most products- even ordinary household ware- can be works of art. Look out especially for lacquerware, cloth (silk is a specialty), ceramics, traditional Japanese paper including washi’- handmoulded paper, and pearls. All over the country, you’ll find shops, department stores and markets where these items are sold, and with some practice, you should soon be able to figure out the cheapest places to buy them.
