North Korea Travel Documents Guide

By news desk on October 24,2007

As an individual tourist just wanting to "go sightseeing" in North Korea, you can give up all hope of getting a visa- it doesn’t happen. Your only hope is to go through a travel agent, and probably try for some sort of group visa- even a group of 2 people can be granted visas at DPRK diplomatic missions abroad. Everybody, no matter what nationality, must get a visa to enter North Korea- although citizens of South Korea or the USA aren’t normally allowed into the country, unless invited by a host organisation. Apply to the nearest North Korean embassy well in advance for a visa- processing can take a long time. Also remember that certain professions are considered `suspect’ by the authorities- such as journalism. If that’s what your passport says you are, you’d better give up the idea of visiting the country- at least in the near future.
