South Korea: Tourist Health And Safety Guide

By news desk on October 24,2007

As far as health risks are concerned, you needn’t be particularly worried if you’re planning to visit South Korea- the country is fairly safe and considering the fact that hygiene is generally pretty good, there’s little risk of serious illness. If you’re going during the summer when it can get very hot, humid and typically `tropical’, it might be sensible to get vaccinated against some of the more deadly tropical diseases. These include diphtheria, polio, tetanus, typhoid and hepatitis.

Take the usual precautions while in the country- only eat freshly cooked hot food and drink only boiled or bottled water. Should you fall ill in South Korea, you needn’t really worry- the medical system is good and efficient, and you’ll be in fairly safe hands.

South Korea is a relatively safe country to travel in - violent crime is quite rare, although there are cases of robbery, theft or muggings. As in most of Asia (and especially South East Asia), you should keep an eye on your belongings, particularly when moving through a crowded area. Don’t flash your money around, and as long as you’re careful, you shouldn’t really have a problem.
