Prague Habitat Guide

By news desk on January 15,2008

Situated in Bohemia near Europe's geographic centre, Prague is the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic. This "city of a hundred spires," is situated on the banks of the Vltava River and spreads over an area of 498 sq. km in a topographically sheltered spot in the Prague Basin amidst the hills of the Central Bohemian Highlands. Although the city is commonly called the "Zlata Praha" - Golden Prague – the city’s situation in this sheltered spot traps plenty of smog and vehicular pollution particularly in the winters. The cloud cover is so dense in winters that planes flying in to Prague experience great difficulty in landing in such conditions.
