Electricity
It’s a 220 v, 50 hz AC country. Bringing along an adaptor of your own is advised if you plan to use appliances.
Customs & Duties
Customs duty is levied on fur, leather and gold items. The export of antiques, works of art and certain other items from Poland is prohibited, as are firearms and narcotics. You require to make a customs declaration at the border. Duty-free shops are located at border crossing points and you could shop here and pay in foreign or local currency, travellers cheques or credit cards.
Post & Communications
Post offices are open from 8 am to 8 pm. Airmail under 20 gms costs 1.60 Zloty.
For local as well as international calls, you can buy telephone cards available at kiosks and post offices everywhere .
Tipping
Waiters expect about 10% since no service charge is added. Give the bellboy or doorman about Zloty 2, and he’ll go away happy.
English Language Media
The monthly publication ‘Warsaw Insider’ is available from most hotels and is a good English language source about what’s happening in the city. A popular English language bookstore are Bookland and American Bookstore.
