How To Reach Gdansk

By Air

Gdansk’s local airport is Port Lotniczy Gdansk-Trojmiasto, about 8 km from the city centre and connected to most major European capitals. Flights arrive at Gdansk from London, Brussels, Copenhagen, Hamburg and Frankfurt regularly, and domestic flights come in from about a dozen cities, including Warsaw and Krakow. You can take a taxi from the airport to the city, or catch the bus, which leaves every 30 or 40 minutes for the city.

By Train

Gdansk Glowny, virtually next door to Gdansk’s Old Town, is the city’s main train station. Domestic and international trains arrive from across Poland and its neighbouring countries virtually every hour.

A note of caution: although the train station has left-luggage facilities, it’s better not to avail of them. The charges are exorbitant, and unless you’re willing to shell out a hefty fee at the end- or if you have no other option - it’s advisable not to leave any luggage at the station.

By Road

Gdansk lies on three of Poland’s major highways: the E75 from the south, the E28 from the west and the E77 from the east. If you’re coming from Warsaw, you’ll be taking the E77. Road conditions are good on the highways, but secondary roads tend to be badly maintained. If you’re driving on your own, take care: the Polish traffic police are very efficient, and even minor infringements of traffic laws can bring on heavy penalties.

Regular buses from the rest of the country, and from abroad, arrive at Gdansk, terminating at the Dworzec PKS, the central bus station. The station’s conveniently located, almost in the heart of the city.

By Sea

Gdansk’s Nowy Port (New Port) is the main landing - ground for ferries to and from the city. Gdansk has daily ferry connections to the Swedish port of Nynashamn; there’s a ferry going to and from Gdansk every day. There is, besides Nowy Port, a small port at Gdynia, which is linked by ferry to Karlskrona. The Polish Baltic Shipping Company, PolFerries and the Stena Line are the main services which operate ferries in this region, linking Gdansk to Sweden.

Nowy Port is about 7 km from the Gdansk city center, and can be reached by bus or taxi. In addition, there are local commuter trains, which work out much cheaper than taking a taxi.
