Krakow’s swiftly acquiring a reputation as a good holiday destination, and with that comes a reputation for expensive accommodation. The city has its fair share of low- priced hotel rooms, but a lot of the accommodation- especially in the Old Town and around Rynek Glowny- is as expensive as it gets. Some accommodation, generally cheaper, is scattered in the vicinity of the railway station.
Private rooms are available on hire in Krakow; if you’re interested, approach the tourist office, where they can make arrangements. If you’re arriving in Krakow by train, you’ll probably find yourself being pestered by local innkeepers offering private rooms; if you decide to go with one of them check out the room and the locality before saying yes. Haggle if you think you’re being charged too much: about 50 zloty for a double room is acceptable.
Other options for budget accommodation include the local student hotels- for which bookings can be made through the tourist office- and Krakow’s campsites. Probably the best of these is Krak Camping, at Ulica Radzikowskiego, northwest of the city centre.
Wherever you stay, make reservations in advance- especially during the summer, when rooms are in short supply.
