By news desk on September 04,2007

Romanian culture is largely derived from the Roman, with touches of Magyar, Slavic and Turkish. Despite the Western influence, Romania retains a rich native culture.

Romanian literature has a rich history, and has been dominated by themes of religious fervour in the 15 and 16th centuries, but in later times was a symbol and instrument of national unity. The 20th century writer Mihai Eminescu and the playwright Eugene Ionesco are two of the more famous literary figures.Romanian art matured during the 19th century, flourishing under artists like the landscape painter Grigorescu and the sculptor Brancusi.

Much of this heritage is still alive and yours to discover in the many museums of Romania, such as the National Museum of Romanian Art in Bucharest.

You will be delighted by the manufactures of the Artizanat showrooms of Romania, which create simple but charming traditional handicrafts such as painted eggs, handmade lace, and embroidered items.

Other traditional folk art such as communal dances and music still invigorate daily Romanian life. The hora, or round dance, is an instance of the surviving Romanian performing arts.
