Bucharest Shopping Guide

By news desk on January 17,2008

Bucharest is not a Communist historical relic, but an alive and thriving centre for the eager shopper in search of unique and unusual collections.

A Romanian speciality is the hand-woven carpet – but being a foreigner you have to buy it from the designated store of Covoare.

Please yourself with the pretty folk art sold at local Artizanat stores which sell items like dolls, masks and embroidered cloth, carpets, ceramics and much more in the Magazin Aminitri or the Romanian Village Museum.

If you’re missing the upscale shopping experience that the western destinations offer, console yourself at the World Trade Centre – which is like a miniature version of the model mall.

In most of Romania shops are open from 8 am to 6 pm. Big department stores are open at least till 9 pm.

Bargains are available at the lively and authentic Piata Amzei food market which offers a variety of foods, fruits and cheeses.
