Customs & Duties

No duty is to be paid on articles brought for personal use. For those travellers who are from non-European Union countries and are over 17 years old, Austria has a limit on certain duty items. 200 cigarettes, 2 litres of wine or 1 litre of spirits, 1 bottle of eau de cologne or perfume.

220V/50Hz.
Any US purchased electric equipment will necessitate your using a converter and adapter

 

Post & Communications

Post offices are normally open from Mon-Fri 8 am to noon, and from 2 pm to 6 pm. Some open on Saturdays too, and some post offices in the bigger cities are open 24 hours. Stamps can also be purchased from tobacconists (Tabak-Trafik).

You can make international calls from a pay phone using coins, but a better bet would be to buy phone cards (telefonkarte) that you can pick up at post offices or train stations.

Tipping

You should add 3-5% in addition to your bill after your meal. In expensive joints expect to pay more.
