Restaurants near Karntnerstrasse tend to be exorbitant. Less expensive dining options are located north of the university and near Naschmarkt. Neighbourhood Gasthausers (inns) offer inexpensive, hearty and often delicious fare. The Viennese love the coffee and cake combination, and spend hours lingering in those archetypical Viennese institutions, coffeehouses and the Konditoreien (pastry shops). Viennese coffee is known as Melange, and is quite delicious.
For entertainment, head towards the area of Vienna known as the Bermuda Triangle (perhaps because people are known to enter it and get lost in one of its many pubs and bars!). The Musikcafes of districts 6, 7 and 8 are also worth exploring. Culture vultures should not miss out on the many cultural events, especially music concerts through the year, especially in the summer. Regular concerts are also held at the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein. The Volksoper, the Akademitheater and Burgtheater offer light operas/operettas and musicals in German. For English language cultural entertainment, the Vienna’s English Theater and the International Theater are the main options.
Some of Vienna's well known music festivals are the Klangbogen Concerts in summer, Jazz Festival in April-May and the Schubert, Haydn and Mozart Festivals.
