Lagos is full of good places to eat. The restaurants are concentrated around the town center, where you can get local delicacies like chicken piri-piri. Lagos has great restaurants for seafood, especially in the market at the intersection of the main avenue and Rua das Portas de Portugal. You must try the local fig and marzipan pastries.
Lagos has an entertaining and vibrant nightlife. The bars and discotheques stay open as late as 4 am and you can rock through the night listening to jazz, soul and salsa. There are some theatre, folk music and dance performances. Check with the local tourist office for details on what’s happening in and around town. The Algarve Folk Music and Dance Festival is held in a different city every year in September, and is great fun to attend.
