Getting Around Basel: Transport Guide

By news desk on October 10,2007

Walking is probably the easiest way to see Basel, considering that most of the popular tourist sights are fairly close together. There are bicycles available for hire, near the railway station. Renting a car is also a convenient idea since there are a number of good car rental agencies in town.

Basel’s public transport system is dependable (like nearly all other systems in Switzerland). A good network of buses and trams covers the entire city and this is an economical option to taxis, which are fairly expensive.

The tourist board of Basel offers a convenient discount card known as the Basel Card, with discounts on everything from travel to sights, shopping and restaurants. There’s also a very generous offer, the Mobility Ticket, which entitles all visitors staying at paid accommodation to free travel for the duration of their stay in Basel.
