Davos is famous for its many museums. The most well-known of these is the Kirchner Museum, devoted to the works of the renowned Swiss painter Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. The Winter Sports Museum traces the history of winter sports, and has a collection of bobsleds, skis, toboggans and other sports paraphernalia. Other museums worth a visit in Davos include the Dolls and Toys Museum, the Mining Museum, the Village Museum and the Medicine Museum.
Davos has a lively nightlife, and regular performances of theatre, music and dance are held at the Congress Centre and the French Theatre, among other venues.
If you have some time at your disposal, and would like to see the surrounding countryside, take the Glacier Express to Zermatt, or the Bernina and Heidi Express to Tirano and Lugano. Both routes offer some of the most panoramic views of the Swiss countryside.
Davos’s repute as a winter resort means that it’s very well connected to the rest of the world. There are hourly trains from Zurich to Davos, and regular connections to other Swiss and European cities as well. The local airport, Bad Ragaz, has flights coming in from all over Switzerland. Bus connections between Davos and other cities are good too. Once you’re in town, head for the tourist office at Davos Platz. They can help out with accommodation (whether hotels, apartments or campsites), as well as arrangements for travel, sightseeing and excursions.
