Getting Around Zurich: Transport Guide

By news desk on October 11,2007

Zurich is a great city to explore by foot, but if you want to save that extra energy for something else, you can use its excellent transportation facilities.

By bus and tram
This is the most popular means of transport in the city and connect the city extensively. These run from 5:30 AM to midnight. You need to buy a ticket at an automatic vending machine before you get on. If planning to commute extensively, it makes sense to buy a ZurichCARD as this offers free travel within the entire public transport network in Greater Zurich including a trip up the Uetliberg. As a ZurichCARD holder you are entitled to a welcome drink and free admission to more than 40 museums, a discount on the tour of the old town offered by Zurich Tourism. It can be bought at the Tourist Service at the main station or from any transport authority "ticketeria".

By taxi
Taxis are widely available but are expensive. The meter starts at 8SF.
