Zurich Shopping Guide

By news desk on October 11,2007

Zurich's a good place to buy your souvenirs; the city's shops burst with chocolates, embroidery, linen, handmade clocks, watches, leather goods, shoes, glass, handmade clocks and everything else Switzerland is known for.
Zurich's main shopping district is centred around the core of the Old Town, south of the Bahnhofplatz. The Bahnhofstrasse, which runs down the entire length of this area, is lined with boutiques, stores and shops. Besides the Bahnhofstrasse, other streets which are great for shopping include Limmatquai and Rennweg, although better bargains can usually be found along Langstrasse- a good option for budget shopping. For antiques and handcrafted items, head for Rosenhof (in the Old Town), where special stalls are set up on Thursdays and Saturdays. During the peak tourist season (between May and October), the Bürkliplatz becomes the scene of a very lively flea market.

Most shops in Zurich open between 8 am and 6.30 pm from Monday to Friday, and between 8 am to 4 pm on Saturdays. Thursday evenings sees many of the larger stores and shops open till as late as 9 pm.
