Iran Entertainment Guide

Luxury hotels have restaurants attached and serve international and local cuisine. Whatever be your budget, Iran’s food is mouth-watering, especially the pilau rice and skewered meat dishes. In some eating-places, they have menu cards with pictures of the dishes to help wary travellers make up their mind. Cuisine in most of the Middle Eastern countries is similar so it is tough to go wrong with food. "Shwarma" is very popular as a meal or a snack at any time of the day. Iran does not serve alcohol - there are no bars or nightlife in any part of the country.

Shopping

Before you start shopping, acquaint yourself with Iranian customs regulations - they change frequently. A lack of tourist interest has brought down the number of shopping malls, plazas and bazaars drastically. If you are interested in souvenirs, the best places are Tehran, Shiraz and Esfahan. Batik silks, Persian carpets, brassware, embroidery, ceramics, handblown glass, antiques, turquoise, carved or painted miniatures, pustins (sheepskin coats), caviar, inlaid wood, enamel work, silver and gold ware and other local handicrafts are some of the popular mementoes.
