Iraq: Travel Warning

By news desk on July 11,2007

image

The ongoing conflict in Iraq makes travel to Iraq extremely unsafe at present Avoid traveling to Iraq unless it’s absolutely essential. Iraq, the land of the Mesopotamian civilization, is known for its amazing ancient and medieval cities and towns with numerous architectural masterpieces. The world-famous Euphrates and the Tigris rivers form the most dominant topographical features of Iraq. Tourist attractions in Iraq include the legendary cities of Baghdad, Basra, and the ancient archaeological sites at Babylon, Ur, Nineveh, and the 2nd century Arch of Ctesiphon. The 13th century Palace of Qara Sariai and the Nabi Jirjis at Mosul are also worth visiting.

Due to the Iraq war, very limited flights are available for Iraq. Royal Jordanian Airlines operate some flights between Baghdad and Amman (Jordan) and Damascus (Syria). Tourists can also cross borders from Turkey and Jordan (at present only these borders are open to road travel).
