Kuwait: Tourist Health Overview

By news desk on July 03,2007

Health care is excellent in Kuwait, as good as most western countries. Avoid drinking local water. In summer take care not expose yourself to too much to direct sunlight – it may give you sunstroke, severe sunburn and dehydration. Watch out for abnormal fatigue, drowsiness and an itchy sensation of the skin – it signals you require immediate treatment for dehydration.

To avoid harassment, women should dress conservatively, not respond to approaches from strangers and avoid eye contract with men. Go to a public place or the lobby of a hotel if you are being followed.

Much of the desert, outside of the capital of Kuwait City and most of the coastline area is very dangerous and unsafe as hidden land mines are sprinkled all over. Contact your embassy to find out which areas are safe. BEWARE when travelling north of Kuwait towards Iraq – the border is not well marked. At times, foreigners travelling here have been arrested, imprisoned and put on trial in Baghdad. DO NOT go further north than the check post on the Al-Mutla Ridge.
