Weekend Getaways From Doha

By news desk on July 06,2007

Khor (Al Khor) is a port town worth an hour or two if you’re in the area. Visit the port, local market, regional museum, beach and mosques. There are several interesting old watchtowers in the center of Khor. It is 30-miles/45 km north of Doha.

Al Wakrah is an old port town with a nice collection of mosques and traditional homes. Do visit the town’s museum. It is 10-miles/15 km north of Doha.

Al Zubarah is a small town on the northwestern coast and was the country’s most important city about a hundred years ago. Today, all that remains is a small settlement, a former police outpost (well worth seeing), ruins of a much older fort and defenses on the outskirts of town. Zubara is usually visited on a half-day trip from Doha and it is 60 miles /95 km northwest of Doha.
