Fort Harrison State Park : Truly one of Indiana's natural treasures, this state park is carved out of 1,700 acres of the former Fort Benjamin Harrison on Indianapolis' east side. It includes one of the largest unbroken tracts of hardwood in central Indiana, several lakes, more than 6 miles of hiking trails with a hard surface multi-use path and a huge heron rookery.
Monroe Lake : Senic bluffs, rolling topography and lushly wooded areas greet camping and hiking enthusiasts, located in south central Indiana. This area is surrounded by a variety of national forest and wilderness areas.
Patoka Lake : Rolling topography, scenic rock outcroppings and an area rich in local history provide a splendid backdrop for campers and hikers at Patoka Lake in southern Indiana. The Hoosier National Forest is adjacent to the lake, and to the east of the property there are a number of caves waiting to be explored.
Shades State Park : Shades State Park is a peaceful place and is a favorite for campers, hikers and canoeists. The beautiful sandstone cliffs overlooking Sugar Creek and numerous shady ravines provide the backdrop.
Hunting and Fishing :
Brookville Lake : This lake is located in the picturesque Whitewater River Valley. The reservoir's cool, deep waters are a good source of walleye and muskie and offer the best striped bass fishing in the state.
Greene-Sullivan State Forest : The many scenic lakes in this area (Green County) is teeming with all varieties of game fish; bass, crappie, blue gill and catfish.
Turtle Creek Reservoir : Turtle Creek Reservoir has a lot of hungry bass. The deer, ducks, geese and quail that can be found all over the county are enough to entice any hunter.
West Boggs Lake : This lake in Loogootee (Martin County) is well-stocked with bass, crappie, blue gill and catfish, thanks to recent hatchery and water quality programs making it a veritable fisherman's paradise.
