Named after the popular former president Abraham Lincoln, Nebraska's capital city bears many places of importance. Lincoln started out as the village of Lancaster, which was founded in 1856, The capital of Nebraska Territory had been Omaha since the creation of the territory in 1854. The village of Lancaster was chosen, in part due to the salt flats and marshes nearby. Lancaster was renamed Lincoln and became the state capital upon Nebraska's admission to the Union on March 1, 1867.

Folsom Childrens zoo and botanical gardens : The zoo offers more than 300 animals, including Amur leopards, Bactrian camels, baboons, river otters, crocodiles, naked mole rats, several species of primates and red pandas. One third of the animals are a threatened or endangered species. The animals live among breathtaking gardens featuring annuals, perennials and 50 types of trees.

Lincoln Childrens Museum : The Lincoln Children's Museum offers a wonderful learning atmosphere for children, where they can explore and interact with the exhibits. Some of the exhibits featured at the museum include a three-story apple tree, a hot air balloon, a supermarket, a police and fire department, a real airplane and more.

Museum of Nebraska History : 10,000 years of history have been documented at the Museum of Nebraska History. Artifacts, memorabilia and other items display Nebraska's history from Prehistoric times through to the present. The museum covers three floors.

Nebraska State Capitol : The Nebraska State Capitol, constructed between the years of 1922 and 1932, stands a towering 400 feet tall. The building includes four interior courtyards and an observation deck.

The National Museum of Roller Skating : The National Museum of Roller Skating has documented and interpreted the history of roller skating as a sport and recreational activity. The museum displays an extensive collection of artifacts, memorabilia and photographs.

University of Nebraska State Museum : Morrill Hall is located on the University of Nebraska campus, within walking distance from many downtown hotels. The Museum houses an extensive collection of paleontology exhibits, fossil elephants, American Indian exhibits and much more.
