Arhus Travel Guide

By news desk on September 11,2007

The main industrial and commercial centre in the Jutland Peninsula, Århus is a major port, an important cultural centre, and the second largest city in Denmark. Also called Aarhus, the city lies on the eastern coast of Jutland, along Århus Bay; it has a large harbour with extensive shipbuilding facilities. Among the many products manufactured in Århus, the main ones are chemicals, machinery, beer and tobacco products.

The city, however, is not just business and trade - it is also known for its university, one of the best in Denmark, and the fact that it has some of the most impressive old buildings, including Denmark’s oldest church in the country. An atmosphere that is surprisingly charming pervades the entire city - largely a result of the university, which dominates Århus to quite an extent. Combined with this are a lively entertainment scene and a vibrant nightlife, which make it a particularly attractive destination for most travellers.
